Somatic Trauma Therapy
What is Somatic Trauma Therapy?
Service Description
As we take a closer look at trauma, we understand that trauma is a very common human condition; it is a fact of life. As studies around trauma have shown, when addressing trauma, we need to involve the body in our work to enhance the therapeutic process. We can not neglect taking in consideration how the disturbing feelings often show up at times and how huge the impact of trauma is on our bodies. In Somatic Therapy, we learn to differentiate the connection between feelings, emotions, thoughts, and body sensations, and learn the role they play in our stress and past traumatic experiences. When we do work on the physiology of the body, we can go to the root cause problem and understand the state of the nervous system in relation to trauma. In somatic work, the therapist is present, attuned, and empathizes with the client's needs, creates and holds a safe space to keep the client in a state of calmness, to ensure we do not bring the client into a re-traumatised, activated, and highly dis-regulated state.
